Students gain confidence in their own writing when they engage in tasks which are playful and the sharing rewarding. Short bursts of writing are all that are needed to build self-belief and create and foster an environment of risk-taking and play with writing. These RULES FOR WRITING should be pinned up in the students' field of view as encouragement, a reference and reminder. Visual inspiration and stimulus such as this have been refined and proven over 30 years of Secondary English classes. Make your learning environment appealing and encouraging.
